Anurag Sharma takes over as Director (Onshore) at ONGC

ONGC Director (Onshore) Anurag Sharma has once led the Cauvery Asset team to highest ever oil production in last two decades

New Delhi: Anurag Sharma has taken over the charge of Director (Onshore) ONGC, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) on Monday. Prior to this elevation, Sharma was serving as Executive Director in the same Oil & Gas PSU. He has been appointed on the post with effect from June 1, till the date of his superannuation, i.e. February 28, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Sharma was recommended for the post of Director (Onshore) of ONGC by a PESB panel on October 31, 2019. He was selected from a list of eight candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. As Director (Onshore), Sharma will provide stewardship to oil and gas production from ONGC’s onshore fields.

Anurag Sharma’s profile

Sharma is a mechanical engineering graduate from NIT-Allahabad. He also did a master’s in Business Administration from Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi. He has also completed executive education course from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Sharma is a member of the prestigious Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is a recipient of the Manager of the year award as well.

Sharma has a rich experience of overseas operations leading OVL’s Vietnam projects, MD RIG Russia, besides contributing in Business Development activities in CIS and SE Asia. Since joining he has held various positions in ONGC and ONGC Videsh in asset management, operations and services. 

He also served as the EO to Director (T&FS) and led the flagship initiatives as Head, viz. Make in India and Startup India and Solar Chulha project which was taken up on clarion call given to ONGC by Prime Minster of India. He has worked at various levels in management of drilling operations in Ankleswar, Jorhat and Cauvery Projects.

As the Asset Manager of Cauvery Asset, he led the team to highest ever oil production in last two decades. The asset achieved its oil production target and maintained its operations, in spite of the prevailing environmental conditions. Sharma has a strong track record for delivery of the projects with his excellent project execution skills.
