New Delhi: Central Government has approved the appointment of Arun Kumar Kembhavi (IAS) as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.

Kembhavi is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam cadre. He is currently posted as Secretary in the Mining & Geology Department of Meghalaya. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation," the order further read.

Department of Drinking Water Supply

Department of Drinking Water Supply (DDWS) was formed under the Ministry of Rural Development, for focused attention on drinking water and sanitation. Later it was renamed as Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2010. In 2011, it was conferred the Ministry status, keeping in view the extreme importance given to the sector by the United Progressive Alliance government.
