ACC approves tenure extensions and upgradation of 6 senior IAS officers

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a series of tenure extensions and temporary upgradations of posts held by six senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across key government departments and secretariats.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on October 22, the approvals include extensions of temporary upgradation of posts from Additional Secretary to Secretary level, as well as from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary level.

S Gopalakrishnan, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, will continue as Chairman of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) following the extension of the temporary upgradation of the post from Additional Secretary to Secretary level until October 31, 2027.

The ACC has also approved an extension of the temporary upgradation of the post of Director General, National Productivity Council, under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), from Additional Secretary to Secretary level. The post is currently held by Neerja Sekhar, a 1993-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, and the extension will remain effective until December 31, 2027.

In the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the committee has approved the temporary upgradation and operation of a vacant Joint Secretary-level post to Additional Secretary level within the overall sanctioned strength under the Central Staffing Scheme. The post is currently held by Varsha Joshi, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre. The approval will be effective from December 5, 2026, to July 26, 2027.

The ACC has further approved an extension of the temporary upgradation of the Joint Secretary post to Additional Secretary level in the Ministry of Home Affairs, currently held by Nitesh Kumar Vyas, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, until November 7, 2027.

Similarly, the temporary upgradation of the Joint Secretary post to Additional Secretary level in the President's Secretariat, held by Anecta C. Meshram, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been extended until June 13, 2027.

The committee has also approved an extension of the temporary upgradation of the Joint Secretary post to Additional Secretary level in the Cabinet Secretariat, currently held by Rahul Sharma, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, until October 26, 2027.
