New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the appointment of Dinkar Gupta (IPS) as Director-General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Gupta has been appointed to the post with effect from the date of joining the post and up to March 31, 2024, i.e. date of his superannuation or till the further orders whichever takes place earlier.

Gupta is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Punjab cadre. Previously, he was posted as Chairman of Punjab Police Housing Corporation (PPHC).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is the primary counter-terrorist task force of India. The agency is empowered to deal with the investigation of terror-related crimes across states without special permission from the states under a written proclamation from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
