New Delhi: Senior diplomat Dr Ausaf Sayeed (IFS) has been appointed as Secretary (CPV & OIA) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment to the post in place of Sanjay Bhattacharyya (IFS). His letter of appointment has been released by DoPT on Tuesday, February 15.

Sayeed is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) of 1989-batch. He is the current Ambassador of India to Riyadh. He holds a Master of Science and a PhD in Geology from the Osmania University in Hyderabad, India and an Advanced Diploma in Arabic from the American University in Cairo.  He is a Competent Toastmaster (CTM) and recipient of the YGK Murthy Gold Medal from Osmania University.

Dr Sayeed has handled different areas of work in his 30 years of diplomatic service, including political, economic, consular and cultural work, besides Haj management. Before his appointment as the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he served as High Commissioner of India to Seychelles (Feb 2017-April 2019). Prior to that, he served as Consul General of India in Chicago (August 2013-Jan 2017), Ambassador of India to Yemen (Sep 2010-July 2013), Consul General of India in Jeddah (August 2004-July 2008), besides working at the Indian diplomatic Missions in Cairo, Riyadh, Doha and Copenhagen in various capacities.
