New Delhi: Samrat Rahi (IRS) has been appointed as Deputy Chairperson in Kolkata Dock System, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust (Also known as Kolkata Port Trust) under the Ministry of Port, Shipping & Waterways. According to an official order, he has been appointed to the post on a deputation basis for a period of five years with effect from the date of taking over charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Rahi is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 2007-batch. He is currently serving as Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Department, Govt of India.
Rahi is an Engineering Graduate (Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering) from Delhi College of Engineering. He has also done M Sc (Public Policy & Management) from King's College London and has a Certificate in Rewiring Business and Economy for Sustainable Development from the University of Oxford, Department for Continuing Education. Prior to joining the Indian Revenue Services in 2007, he was working as Software Engineer at IBM.
Samrat has also written a fiction novel titled A Romantic Girl: The Story Of A Small Town Girl.
Kolkata Port Trust, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust, is the only riverine major port of India, located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, around 203 kilometres from the sea. It is the oldest operating port in India and was constructed by the British East India company.
