Tripathi is a 2015-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of AGMUT cadre. Presently, he serves as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation.

The decision follows a recommendation by the Civil Services Board and is detailed in an official memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on May 3, 2025. As per the order, Tripathi will serve in the new role with effect from the date he assumes charge, for the remaining duration of his four-year central deputation tenure, ending on August 30, 2028, or until further orders—whichever is earlier.
