New Delhi: At a time when Internet users are increasing rapidly, the companies are shifting their business in cloud-based systems. Taking a step towards 'Digital India Mission,' Indian Railways has also adopted the e-office system to make its work environment paperless, efficient, transparent and expeditious.

In this regards the Indian Railways had signed an MoU with Railtel Corporation of India Limited (RailTel), a Miniratna PSU under the Railways Ministry, in March this year to develop the e-office system with a mandate to complete the initiative by March 2020.

RailTel has created 50,000+ users in 58 establishments of Indian Railways so far, which has adopted paperless work culture and also trained all the executives to handle the platform. This system is being developed by the National Information Centre (NIC). The phase-I of the implementation of NIC e-office has been completed ahead of time, the Railways said in a press release on Wednesday.

What are the benefits?

There is absolute transparency as anything once written on the file is automatically archived. There is also a monitoring mechanism to check as to where the files are held up.

This would enable quick disposal of files and systematic and timely monitoring of pending files. With the above advantages, Indian Railways will be changing the work culture for providing better services to the public.  e-Office fosters a paper-less culture which will not only save operational cost but also reduce carbon footprints.
