New Delhi: IAS Officer Chanchal Kumar has assumed charge as Managing Director (MD) of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. The appointment of Kumar was cleared by the Union Government on January 19. He intimated about the assumption of his new role at NHIDCL, through the microblogging site Twitter on Friday. "Joined as MD of NHIDCL hope to make meaningful contribution to country's Highways Infrastructure," Chanchal Kumar wrote.

Kumar is a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Bihar cadre. Prior to this present assignment, he was serving as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar. Kumar is an IIT Kanpur alumnus. He holds a Master degree in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur and another Master's degree in International Development Policy and applied Economics from Duke University.

NHIDCL is a fully owned company under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. It promotes, surveys, establishes, designs, builds, operates, maintains and upgrades national highways and strategic roads including interconnecting roads in parts of the country which share international boundaries with neighbouring countries.
