NMDC Swarojgar Yojana: Empowering Self-Reliance in Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: NMDC Limited in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh government, has launched the NMDC Swarojgar Yojana, a transformative CSR initiative aimed at fostering self-employment and economic empowerment in Kondagaon, a tribal district of Chhattisgarh.

With an initial budget of Rs 1 crore, the program has already allocated Rs 40 lakh in its first phase, benefitting over 40 individuals. The initiative equips youth and women with resources and skills to start businesses such as dairy farming, tea stalls, and mobile repair shops. Beneficiaries now earn sustainable monthly incomes ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000, marking a significant socio-economic shift in the region.

Highlighting the program's impact,Babita Sarkar from Jugani Camp Village leveraged funding to start a dairy business, earning Rs 20,000 – Rs 25,000 monthly, enabling her to support her daughters’ education. Similarly, Smt. Lakshmi Nisad, a tea stall owner in Baderajpur, now earns Rs 800– Rs 1,200 daily, transforming her livelihood.

The program, overseen by the district administration and implemented through a revolving fund, ensures that resources are reinvested to support future entrepreneurs. NMDC’s broader CSR initiatives, such as the Balika Shiksha Yojana and Saksham, reflect its commitment to sustainable development and community welfare.
