

New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, committing nearly Rs 11.87 crore towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure, early childhood development facilities and access to safe drinking water in project-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
The MoUs have been signed at SECL headquarters under the guidance of SECL's Director (HR) Biranchi Das, as part of the company’s sustained efforts to support social infrastructure and community welfare in its operational regions. The have been executed on behalf of SECL by CM Verma, General Manager (CSR), in the presence of senior officials from the CSR department and representatives of the implementing organisations.
As a key CSR intervention in the healthcare sector, SECL has approved projects aimed at improving infection control, indoor air quality and patient safety in major government hospitals through the installation of advanced semiconductor-based air sterilisation technology. At the Late Bisahu Das Mahant Memorial Government Medical College & Hospital in Korba, SECL has sanctioned Rs 2.81 crore for procuring and installing 62 semiconductor air steriliser units. These will be deployed in critical care areas, including operation theatres, ICUs, NICUs, PICUs, labour rooms, TB wards and burn wards, benefiting patients from Korba and adjoining districts while enhancing workplace safety for healthcare professionals.
In another major healthcare initiative, SECL will extend CSR support of Rs 3.49 crore to the Kumar Sahab Swargiya Shri Dilip Singh Judeo Government Super Specialty Hospital in Bilaspur. Under this project, 77 semiconductor air steriliser units will be installed in operation theatres, ICUs, MICUs, dialysis units and other enclosed treatment areas to strengthen infection prevention measures and improve indoor air quality at the region’s premier government super specialty hospital.
SECL has also undertaken a significant intervention in early childhood development and social infrastructure. The company has signed an MoU with Shrushti Seva Samiti, Udaipur (Rajasthan), for the development of 200 Model Anganwadi Centres in Bilaspur district at a total CSR cost of Rs 4.72 crore. The project will focus on upgrading and modernising existing Anganwadi centres through improved infrastructure, sanitation facilities, furniture and child-friendly learning environments, benefiting thousands of children and families at the grassroots level.
In addition, SECL has entered into an MoU with CIPET, Raipur, to improve access to safe drinking water in mining-affected areas. Under this initiative, 3,989 sets of 30-litre capacity domestic water filters along with water treatment kits will be supplied and distributed in project-affected villages of the Gevra Area. The project involves a CSR expenditure of Rs 84.73 lakh and aims to contribute to better public health and quality of life for local communities.
