MDL signs MoU with NSHIPAP to anchor Rs 15,000 crore Andhra Pradesh shipbuilding cluster

New Delhi: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park Andhra Pradesh (NSHIPAP) to participate as the Anchor Shipyard in the proposed Greenfield Shipbuilding Industrial Cluster at Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed shipbuilding cluster envisages an investment of around Rs 15,000 crore and an annual shipbuilding capacity of 1.2 million Gross Tonnage (GT).

MDL said the proposed shipyard aims to create a globally competitive shipbuilding and marine ecosystem in the country and facilitate the development of large-scale commercial shipbuilding capabilities.

The MoU has been signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

As the Anchor Shipyard, MDL will play a key role in anchoring the development of the proposed greenfield shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam, which is envisaged to have an annual capacity of at least 1.2 million GT.

The development marks another step by MDL towards expanding its presence in large-scale commercial shipbuilding and supporting the growth of India’s shipbuilding and maritime ecosystem.
