Coal India hosts workshop on electrification of mining fleet to drive sustainable operations

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) organised a workshop on the electrification of mining dumpers and trucks at its corporate headquarters in Kolkata, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable mining practices.

Addressing the gathering virtually from Dhanbad, Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical), highlighted that the electrification of mining machinery would significantly reduce dependence on fossil fuels in mining operations. He noted that transitioning to an electric fleet would not only support environmental goals but also help lower operational costs.

Ghatak emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts among equipment manufacturers, academia, and Coal India to develop electric mining machinery tailored to the specific requirements of mining operations.

The workshop aimed at encouraging the manufacturing and deployment of electric dumpers and trucks, aligning with Coal India’s broader vision of achieving net-zero emissions and advancing eco-friendly mining practices.

The event saw participation from senior officials of Coal India’s corporate headquarters and its subsidiaries, along with leading manufacturers of dumpers and trucks and other industry representatives, fostering dialogue on accelerating the adoption of electric mobility solutions in the mining sector.
