New Delhi: Newly-appointed NHPC Limited's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Abhay Kumar Singh met Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday in New Delhi. NHPC expressed its keen interest in taking up new projects in Himachal Pradesh, the company said on Saturday.

During the meeting, issues regarding the execution of 449 MW Dugar Hydroelectric Project allotted to NHPC and three more hydroelectric projects in Himachal Pradesh, i.e. 260 MW Sach Khas, 130 MW Rashil and 104 MW Tandi were discussed. These four projects altogether have a capacity of over 900 MW, involving an expenditure of about Rs 10,000 crore. The Chief Minister assured that all the obstacles related to 520 MW Teesta-IV Hydroelectric project shall be resolved by the end of this month. He also assured that full support of the Sikkim state government will be extended for these hydroelectric projects, namely 500 MW Teesta-VI, 120 MW Rangit-IV and 520 MW Teesta-IV to be executed by NHPC in Sikkim.

NHPC Limited, formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, was incorporated on November 7, 1975, as a Central government enterprise for the development of hydropower. It is a Miniratna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. NHPC Limited, a premier hydropower company and a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Power. The company had paid an interim dividend of Rs 840.96 crore to the government for the financial year 2019-20.

NHPC Limited has achieved its highest-ever electricity (Power) generation by generating 24,209 million units (MUs) (up to February 23) in the current year (FY2019-20). NHPC has thus, surpassed its previous year (FY 2018-19) generation of 24,193 MUs. This is the highest-ever generation by NHPC since its incorporation in November 1975.
