New Delhi: Debasish Nanda is set to be the next Director (Business Development) of Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharashtra PSU under the Ministry of Coal. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Thursday. He is currently serving as Executive Director (Gas) in Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

Nanda has been recommended for the post of Director (Business Development) of Coal India from a list of three candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its selection meeting held on March 17. There were two other candidates where from Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

Nanda is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Sambalpur University with a Post-Graduation in Production Engineering from REC, Rourkela. He has also done Masters in International Business from IIFT, New Delhi.

He joined IndianOil in 1988 as a Management Trainee in Marketing Division and spent 11 years in the marketing of Servo lubricants. Thereafter, he moved to Business Development Group in 1999. He had a stint in Business Development activities viz. expansion of lube business overseas, exports of POL, setting-up of Indian Oil's subsidiaries, etc. before moving to Indian Oil's Gas Business in 2009.

As Director (Business Development) of Coal India, Nanda will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to Chairman-cum-Managing Director. He would be overall in charge to drive the company's business, increasing its revenue, identifying and developing new business opportunities, organizing research & development activities, building and expanding the presence of the company both locally as well as in the global market.
