Scheduled tentatively from May 4 to July 5, the programme builds on the success of NHAI’s winter and six-month internship initiatives and has been expanded to include a wide range of technical and non-technical disciplines. Students can apply through the NHAI Internship Portal by April 15.

The internship will cover engineering streams such as civil, information technology, computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, instrumentation, and data science/artificial intelligence. In a significant expansion, the programme also includes non-technical fields such as law, commerce, sciences, management, mass communication, and library science.

Selected candidates will be deployed at NHAI field offices or at its headquarters in New Delhi, where they will work under the mentorship of experienced officials. The authority will provide a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 along with a certificate upon successful completion.

Eligibility is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from premier institutions, including top-ranked institutes under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), leading law universities, and reputed management and media institutes.

The application process is being conducted through a dedicated portal with separate logins for students and institutions. Institutes are required to verify and approve applications, following which NHAI will allocate projects based on student preferences and availability.

NHAI has also urged academic institutions to actively promote the programme, facilitate applications, and nominate faculty coordinators to support students during the process.

The previous phase of the internship programme saw strong participation, with 244 civil engineering students completing the winter internship and 149 students enrolled in the ongoing six-month programme. Building on this momentum, the expanded summer programme aims to further strengthen industry-academia collaboration and contribute to the development of a skilled workforce for India’s infrastructure sector.
