New Delhi: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has achieved phenomenal growth in coal production and dispatch in the first two months of the current fiscal (FY 2022-23). Mining the coal from 10 highly mechanized mines, NCL has produced 21.82 million tonnes of coal with 22.5 percent Y-o-Y growth in FY 2022-23. NCL had produced 17.80 million tonnes of coal in April and May month of last fiscal (FY 2021-22). This performance is assumed significant in the backdrop of spurt in the energy demand of the country.

Similarly, in the first two months of the current financial year, NCL has dispatched a total of 22.79 million tonnes of coal to all its coal consumers including powerhouses, which is about 19.2 percent higher than the coal dispatched during the same period of last financial year. During the same period in the last fiscal, the company had dispatched 19.11 million tonnes of coal to all its consumers.

Catering to the increasing energy demand of the nation, NCL has supplied 92 percent of its coal to power houses. NCL sent 20.85 million tonnes of coal to power houses, which is more than the target given till date.

NCL operates from mega open cast mines, hence huge amount of Overburden (Material above coal seam) has to remove before digging out coal which accounts for roughly 3-4 times the amount of coal production each year. Posting a spectacular output in Over Burden Removal (OBR), NCL has achieved 38 percent y-o-y growth and has removed a whooping 72.32 million cubic meter. Growth in OBR is an indicator of healthy and sustained mining.

NCL has been entrusted with 410 million cubic meter of OBR and 122 milion tonnes of coal production and dispatch in the current fiscal year.
