Rajiv Bansal appointed as part-time Director on GAIL board
New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has appointed Rajiv Bansal as part-time (Government Nominee) Director on the board of GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. He is Additional Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. "Board of Directors of GAIL (India) Limited have approved the appointment of Bansal as Government Nominee Director with effect from January 1, 2020," GAIL said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchange.
Education and background
Bansal is an IAS officer and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He is a Civil Engineer by profession, having graduated from IIT-Delhi in 1986. He also has a diploma in finance from ICFAI, Hyderabad, and an Executive Masters in International Business from IIFT, New Delhi. He was earlier Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) where he was looking after Digital Payments, IT Act, Aadhaar, and Internet Governance. During his career spanning almost 30 years, Bansal has worked as Secretary of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Joint Secretary of Department of Heavy Industries, and Director, Ministry of Civil Aviation. He has earlier been on the board of BHEL, NACIL, AYCL, Alliance Air, HMT and GITA. He has also held important assignments in the state government.
