New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the Chhattisgarh-based arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), has created history in the overburden removal (ORB) in a single day.

The Bilaspur-headquartered miner recorded 1 million cubic meter OBR in a day. "This is highest ever since the inception of the company (that came into being in 1985)," SECL said in a statement. Overburden removal refers to the removal of top-soil to expose the coal seams making it ready for mining. Any delay in this process impacts the future readiness of the company to sustain output levels.

The SECL has set a target to produce 182 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the current financial year. The company despatched 5,22,370 tonnes coal, which is the highest daily dispatch so far in the current fiscal.

SECL's CMD Dr Prem Sagar Mishra today reviewed the progress of proposed First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects at Gevra and Kusmunda, who major mines operated by the company.

Dr Mishra himself reached Ground Zero and took stock of the ongoing activities. He also directed the officials to accelerate and complete the work at the earliest.

It may be noted that under FMC projects, Rapid Loading System (RLS) (capacity 20 MTY) and silo 5 and 6 (capacity 30 MTY) are being developed in Gevra area at a cost of about Rs 800 crore. Commissioning of CHP Phase-1 and Phase-2 in Kusmunda area under FMC has been done while work on Central In-pit Conveyor System is in progress.

FMC projects are based on the state-of-the-art concepts of coal transportation and are highly eco-friendly.
