New Delhi: The Government has approved the appointment of M Ashwini Naidu (IFS) as Director (Auctions) of Tobacco Board, Bengaluru under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. According to the order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), she has been appointed to the post for a period of three years with effect from the date of joining of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Naidu is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2008-batch. She is currently serving as Head of Consular Passport and Community Affairs in Embassy of India, Rome, Italy.

Tobacco Board

The Tobacco Board was constituted as a statutory body on January 1, 1976, under Section (4) of the Tobacco Board Act, 1975. It falls under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The Board is headed by a Chairman with its headquarters at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and is responsible for the development of the tobacco industry. While the primary function of the Board is the export promotion of all varieties of tobacco and its allied products, its functions extend to production, distribution (for domestic consumption and exports) and regulation of Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco.
