N Gowri Sankara Rao assumes charge as Director (Finance) of MIDHANI

• N Gowri Sankara Rao has assumed charge of Director (Finance) of Defence PSU MIDHANI

• Earlier Rao was serving as General Manager in RINL-VSP

New Delhi: Gowri Sankara Rao has assumed charge as Director (Finance) of Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI), a Miniratna Defence PSU, on Tuesday. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as General Manager in RINL-VSP. According to an earlier order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Rao was appointed to the post for a period with effect October 27, till the date of his superannuation i.e. May 31, 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Rao was recommended for the post of Director (Finance) of MIDHANI by the PESB panel on July 3. He was selected from the list of five candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. There were a total of two candidates, including Rao, who were from RINL and others were from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited.

Rao's profile

Rao is a Chartered Accountant by profession with over 27 years of experience in financial planning & control, budgeting, concurrence, international trade, taxation, accountancy, MIS, ERP related to FI, CO, FM and other related modules like SD, MM, PP and HR. He holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from Andhra University. He has been associated with Vizag Steel Plant as General Manager from 1991 and Hyderabad Cylinders Pvt. Ltd as Finance Manager from 1989 – 1991.

Awards and achivements

Rao is a recipient of the number of awards and recognitions. He has received the 'Jawaharlal Nehru Award' for the year 1994-95 for his outstanding performance in three years of joining the organisation and 'Employees Instantaneous Recognition Award' for outstanding performance from RINL-VSP. He has also been awarded 'Special Reward' from RINL-VSP for the savings made and obtaining refunds of Rs 18 crore which are long pending with Income-tax Department.

New role & responsibility

As Director (Finance) of MIDHANI, Rao will be overall in charge of the finance and accounts of the organisation and also will be responsible for evolving and formulating policies related to finance and accounts as well as implementation thereof.
