New Delhi: The services of Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Coal India Limited (CIL) has been extended for a period of one year, said an order from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The government has approved the proposal for extension of deputation tenure of Saroj Kumar Sadangi (IRSS) beyond July 31, 2021, i.e. up to July 31, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the order said. Sadangi is an Indian Railways Stores Service (IRSS) officer of 1988-batch. He has been serving as CVO of CIL since April 2019. 

Sadangi's profile

Sadangi is an engineering graduate (B Tech) from IIT-Kharagpur. He also holds a masters' degree in public policy from National University of Singapore and Kennedy School of Government, Harvard, USA. He has worked in governance, vigilance and anti-corruption departments in various zones of the Indian Railways, ports of Kolkata, Haldia, Chennai, Paradip, Kamarajar Port Limited, Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works and Indian Maritime University.

During his tenure as vigilance officer, Sadangi conducted investigations that uncovered irregularities in the transportation of iron ore in railways, high-value procurement contracts, the recruitment process of railway staff, data transmission distortion in weighbridges installed in ports and sidings, affiliation process of maritime institutes etc.

He was also part of the Justice MB Shah Commission of Enquiry constituted by the Centre to investigate illegal mining of iron ore and manganese in large parts of the country.
