New Delhi: The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI Airport) in Kolkata is gearing up to celebrate its centenary on December 21, 2024. Established in 1924 as Dum Dum Airport, the iconic aviation hub has played a pivotal role in India’s aviation journey, marking milestones such as hosting the Bengal Flying Club in 1929, becoming one of the first jet service hubs in 1964, and inaugurating a dedicated cargo terminal in 1975.

The grand centenary event will be inaugurated by Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, alongside Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Lok Sabha MP Prof. Saugata Roy, and other dignitaries. The celebration will reflect on the airport's rich legacy and its contribution to shaping India’s aviation future.

To mark the occasion, the airport will launch “UDAN Yatri Café,” a budget-friendly pilot project by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Offering quality food at affordable prices, the café aims to enhance the passenger experience. Other initiatives include the release of a commemorative stamp and coin and a coffee table book showcasing India’s cultural heritage through modern airport architecture.

Spread over 1,566.3 acres, NSCBI Airport serves 26 million passengers annually and connects to 49 domestic and 15 international destinations. Its state-of-the-art cargo terminal links eastern India to global markets, driving economic growth in the region.

As the gateway to eastern and northeastern India, NSCBI Airport stands as a testament to Kolkata’s blend of tradition and progress, connecting people, cultures, and nations over a century.
