Delhi: CNG prices in the national capital were hiked by Rs 2 per kg on Tuesday, marking the fourth increase in less than two weeks and continuing a sharp uptick in clean‑fuel costs for Delhi’s transport and commercial users. The revised rate now stands at Rs 83.09 per kg, as notified by city gas distributor Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL).

This latest revision is the fourth since May 15, during which CNG rates in Delhi have been raised cumulatively by Rs 4 per kg. Earlier hikes were implemented in quick succession, nudging the price from the previous band of around Rs 79 per kg to the current level. The move comes amid rising input‑gas prices, changes in the government’s gas‑pricing mechanism, and fluctuations in rupee–dollar exchange rates, all of which feed into city‑gate tariffs and, ultimately, retail CNG prices.
The repeated price revisions are expected to put pressure on daily commuters, auto and taxi fleets, and small commercial users who rely on CNG for cost‑effective and relatively cleaner fuel. At the same time, the government and OMCs continue to justify periodic adjustments as part of a market‑linked pricing framework, which aims to reflect the underlying cost of gas while balancing affordability and environmental objectives.

Industry watchers say that if global gas prices remain elevated, further short‑term hikes in Delhi and other CNG‑using cities cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.
