New Delhi: The All India Association of Coal Executives (AIACE) has urged the management of Coal India Limited (CIL) to revise its ‘Mission’ to include the paradigm of wellness of both present and former employees.

In a letter addressed to Coal India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) PM Prasad, the body which represents Executives working with Coal India and its subsidiaries, said, “Website of Coal India Ltd proudly displays stated Mission of Coal India as, ‘To produce and market the planned quantity of coal and coal products efficiently and economically in an eco-friendly manner with due regard to safety, conservation and quality.’ Curiously, it misses out the aspect of Employees’ welfare which is proudly covered under socially sustainable growth as reflected in Vision of Coal India reproduced below: ‘To emerge as a global player in the primary energy sector committed to provide energy security to the country by attaining environmentally & socially sustainable growth through best practices from mine to market.’”

“In light of the above facts, we propose that the contents in Mission of Coal India be expanded and revised as below: To produce and market the planned quantity of coal and coal products efficiently and economically in a socio-economic friendly manner with due regard to safety, conservation and quality, along with ensuring quality life to the family of past and present employees,” said PK Singh Rathor, principal general secretary of AIACE, in the letter.

“Ensuring these minor alterations in stated Mission of Coal India Ltd has the potential to boost the image of CIL as a whole, while motivating the existing employees to work in a major way for ensuring the welfare of its working and retired employees to whom CIL owes a lot for their present and past contribution for the present growth of CIL,” said the letter.
