New Delhi: In a significant step towards a sustainable mining sector, the Union Minister of Coal, Pralhad Joshi chaired a meeting on Friday with senior officials from Coal Ministry, Coal India Limited (CIL), and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL). The objective of the meeting was to review the progress of sustainability measures and ensure adherence to set deadlines, informed the Minister of Coal in a tweet.

'CIL is taking rapid strides towards achieving its net zero emission target by 2025-26'

During the meeting, Joshi said that Coal India Limited, one of the leading coal producers in the country, is taking rapid strides towards its ambitious target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2025-26. This commitment signifies a remarkable transformation in the coal industry, as CIL actively works towards mitigating its environmental impact.

NLCIL generated highest-ever amount of RE among coal CPSUs

Furthermore, the Coal Minister announced a groundbreaking achievement in renewable energy generation. NLCIL, a coal public sector undertaking, generated the highest-ever amount of renewable energy among coal CPSUs (Central Public Sector Undertakings). This accomplishment highlights the industry's dedication to embracing cleaner energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The meeting was conducted under the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India), emphasising the importance of a sustainable mining sector at its core.
