Coal Ministry hosts Roadshow on surface coal, lignite gasification projects

New Delhi: Ministry of Coal on Thursday organised a roadshow in New Delhi on the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects, attracting participation from policymakers, state governments, industry leaders, technology providers, investors and financial institutions.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy attended the event as the chief guest, while Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey was the guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Reddy said coal gasification would play a key role in strengthening India’s energy security, reducing import dependence and promoting cleaner utilisation of domestic coal resources. He highlighted that the government has launched an incentive scheme worth Rs 8,500 crore and recently approved an additional financial support package of Rs 37,500 crore for coal gasification projects.

According to the minister, the initiatives are expected to attract investments of nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore and generate large-scale employment opportunities across sectors such as fertilizers, methanol, hydrogen and petrochemicals.

Ministry of Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt said the approved scheme is expected to facilitate around 25 new gasification projects and create nearly 50,000 direct and indirect jobs in coal-bearing regions.

The ministry said the roadshow served as a platform for stakeholder engagement and discussions on project viability, policy incentives, technology readiness and implementation frameworks for surface coal and lignite gasification projects.

The Ministry of Coal reiterated its commitment towards promoting a future-ready coal gasification sector through policy support, technological advancement and efficient utilisation of domestic coal resources in line with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
