New Delhi: The domestic aviation sector has witnessed a remarkable surge in passenger traffic during the first eight months of 2023. According to the recent data released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), domestic airlines carried an impressive 1190.62 lakhs of passengers from January to August 2023, indicating a substantial growth of 38.27 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
In August 2023, there was a significant monthly growth of 23.13 percent, resulting in a passenger count of 148.27 lakhs.
This increase in number of passengers highlights the industry's resilience and its ability to recover from the challenges posed by the global pandemic.
Despite the impressive growth in passenger traffic, it's important to note that the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines in August 2023 was exceptionally low at just 0.65 percent.
During August 2023, scheduled domestic airlines received a total of 288 passenger-related complaints, equating to a complaint rate of approximately 0.23 complaints per 10,000 passengers carried.
This low rate of complaints and cancellations underscores the industry's commitment to prioritizing customer satisfaction and providing dependable and efficient services to passengers.
Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, appreciated the sector's growth. "This consistent expansion reflects the combined efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in nurturing a secure, efficient, and passenger-focused aviation ecosystem", he said.
"The aviation industry remains dedicated to ensuring passenger safety and comfort while adapting to evolving travel requirements and regulations", he added.
"As air travel continues to recover, domestic airlines are well-positioned to play a pivotal role in promoting economic growth and connectivity throughout India", the minister said.
