DVC integrates art and culture with industrial landscape at Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station

New Delhi: In a unique initiative aimed at blending art, culture, and local heritage with industrial development, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) unveiled a series of wall mural paintings at the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Purulia district. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by DVC Chairman S Suresh Kumar (IAS) along with senior officials.

The mural paintings, conceptualized to reflect the rich cultural and natural heritage of Purulia, highlight the district’s historical landmarks, tourist attractions, and geographical indicators. One of the murals is specifically designed to promote awareness about safety and health among the personnel working at the power station through impactful visual communication.

Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Kumar emphasized the importance of integrating art and heritage into the industrial landscape to foster a deeper connection between the workforce, the local community, and the environment. “This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the power station but also celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Purulia while reinforcing vital messages on safety and health,” he said.

A book documenting the mural project was also released during the event, highlighting the creative process and the stories behind the artwork. The artists involved in the project were felicitated for their contribution to this artistic endeavor.

DVC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and supporting art, heritage, and culture across all its plants and establishments. This initiative is a testament to DVC’s dedication to creating a harmonious blend of industrial progress and cultural preservation.

The murals are expected to not only enhance the visual appeal of the power station but also serve as a medium to connect with the community and convey essential messages on workplace safety and well-being.
