New Delhi: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) on Thursday said that it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NHPC Limited under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) FDRE (Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy) scheme. This agreement secures 250 MW for 25 years of solar power, supported by a robust battery storage system, to ensure a reliable and affordable power supply.
Under the terms of the agreement, ACME Solar Holdings Ltd will provide 250 MW of renewable energy from its solar power complemented by a 250 MW/1,150 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from their upcoming plant in Rajasthan. This agreement is expected to be operational by June 2027.
Key Highlights:
Reliable Supply: The integration of BESS ensures uninterrupted power during peak demand periods, addressing current storage requirements and enhancing grid reliability.
Green Mix Expansion: This initiative adds significant clean energy capacity to DVC’s portfolio, supporting the transition to sustainable energy sources.
Industrial Benefit: The enhanced grid stability will benefit industrial operations in the Damodar Valley region, promoting economic growth.
Renewable Energy Compliance: This agreement helps DVC to meet its Renewable Purchase Obligations.
“This PPA reinforces DVC’s resolution to integrate clean, dependable energy into our network. Also inclusion of a substantial battery storage system is crucial in meeting present storage requirements and ensuring a steady power supply.” said Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance), DVC.
Onkar Yadav, GM, NHPC added, “By partnering with ACME, NHPC continues to enable dispatchable solar solutions for utilities across India.”
This collaboration aims to ensure a stable and sustainable power supply, complementing DVC’s existing thermal and renewable energy portfolio. The agreement will support industrial growth, enhance grid stability, and promote clean energy adoption and help DVC to meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation to a large extent.
