

New Delhi: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) showcased its advanced shipbuilding, ship repair, and green propulsion capabilities at India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, from October 27–31. The event, organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in collaboration with the Indian Ports Association (IPA), brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and maritime stakeholders to deliberate on the future of India’s maritime sector under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
The five-day event was graced by the Prime Minister of India, the Union Home Minister, senior government officials, and key figures from international shipbuilding and shipping industries.
HSL’s exhibition booth was inaugurated by Cmde Girideep Singh, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, in the presence of the Director (Shipbuilding) and senior officials. The stall highlighted HSL’s core competencies in shipbuilding, ship repair, submarine refit, and green energy-driven propulsion systems.
During the event, HSL’s leadership participated in multiple panel discussions and technical sessions focused on advancing indigenous shipbuilding, promoting sustainable technologies, and achieving self-reliance in both defence and commercial maritime segments.
As part of its strategic outreach, HSL entered into several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and collaboration agreements with Indian and international partners to enhance cooperation in green technology, ship repair, design innovation, and skill development. Key agreements included:
MoU with Indian Ports Association (IPA) for the development of Green/Hydrogen Tugs under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP).
Technology Partnership Agreement with Lotus Wireless India Pvt. Ltd. (LWT) for developing Electric/Hydrogen Tugs.
MoU with Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) for the construction of a 60T BP Conventional Tug.
MoU with the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS) to design and deliver advanced training programs in Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, AR/VR, Robotics, and Additive Manufacturing.
MoU with M/s MCI World LLC, Dubai, to promote HSL’s ship repair business across the Middle East and North Africa region.
MoU with Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) for docking, repair, and maintenance of DCI vessels at HSL.
In addition to these collaborations, HSL showcased its ongoing infrastructure modernisation and capacity augmentation initiatives designed to enhance productivity, efficiency, and turnaround time. The shipyard is gearing up to bid for new commercial and defence projects, including Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), Medium Range (MR) Tankers, and Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), in partnership with global technology leaders.
As part of the Andhra Pradesh State Session on Shipbuilding, HSL joined deliberations led by the Minister (Industries & Investment), Government of Andhra Pradesh BC Janardhan Reddy, and the Special Chief Secretary to Govt of Andhra Pradesh & Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) MT Krishna Babu (IAS) to explore opportunities for strengthening the maritime ecosystem in the state.
HSL also contributed actively to policy-level discussions with the Directorate General of Shipping on initiatives such as the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS), Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS), and Credit Risk Coverage frameworks.
Through its strong participation at IMW 2025 and its series of strategic partnerships, Hindustan Shipyard Limited reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, while advancing the nation’s goal of becoming a global shipbuilding and green maritime hub.
