NIT Calicut, NRDC sign MoA to commercialise institute-developed technologies

New Delhi: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Government of India enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), to accelerate the commercialization of technologies developed by the institute.

The partnership aims to strengthen the translation of research and innovation into commercially viable products and processes by leveraging NRDC's expertise in technology transfer, intellectual property (IP) management, licensing and industry outreach.

Under the agreement, NIT Calicut has authorised NRDC to market and license selected institute-developed technologies to industry. Commercialisation will be carried out through tripartite Technology License Agreements involving NIT Calicut as the technology owner, NRDC as the licensor and the industrial partner as the licensee.

As part of the collaboration, NRDC will identify potential industry partners, promote NIT Calicut's technologies across sectors, negotiate licensing agreements, monitor technology utilisation, and manage royalty collection and distribution. NIT Calicut will provide technical documentation, demonstrations and support to facilitate technology transfer and industrial adoption.

According to the statement, the agreement establishes a long-term institutional framework for research commercialisation, enabling NIT Calicut to focus on research and innovation while NRDC drives technology transfer, licensing and industry engagement. The collaboration is expected to strengthen academia-industry partnerships, enhance the societal and economic impact of research, promote innovation-led entrepreneurship and support India's vision of self-reliance through technology-driven development.

The MoA has been signed in the presence of senior officials from both organisations, including NRDC Chairman and Managing Director Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.) and NIT Calicut Director Prof. Prasad Krishna.
