New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited plans to make its townships net zero in Scope-II emissions by FY2025-26. In an investor presentation on Monday, NTPC said that it is planning to have net zero townships by the next fiscal year. The PSU has plans to add over 60 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity by 2032 to help India achieve its net zero target by 2070. NTPC said that it has a ‘Brighter Plan 2032’ with well-defined Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) and targets and has a visible RE pipeline of 24 GW.

NTPC aiming to become biggest RE company by 2032

The company is planning to metamorphose from a power-generating company to an integrated energy company by 2032. It said that it wants to become the biggest RE company by 2032, with footprints across segments like, C&I consumers, Green Hydrogen, chemicals and fuel, green mobility, Carbon Capture Utilisation & Sequestration (CCUS) and by-products and nuclear, in addition to its conventional business of coal mining and consultancy.

NTPC creating carbon sink as part of Net Zero plans

NTPC is also creating carbon sink to offset carbon emissions and has planted 39 million trees. It is also developing a mega eco-park at Badarpur. Elaborating the plans of its subsidiaries, NEEPCO and THDC, NTPC said that the two PSUs are likely to execute non-fossil fuel-based capacity of 12 GW by FY2029-30 at an investment of Rs 75,000 crore.
