OMC MD reviews Gandhamardan and Daitari Mines, stresses output growth, digital upgrade and sustainability

New Delhi: Sudhansu Mohan Samal (IAS) Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd (OMC), conducted a review of mining operations at the Corporation’s Gandhamardan and Daitari Iron Ore Mines in Keonjhar district, with a focus on boosting production, adopting advanced digital systems, and strengthening sustainable practices.

Accompanied by OMC's Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Finance) Bana Bihari Pani and senior officials, Samal inspected key operational areas at Gandhamardan Mines including the Ore Stock Area, Quarry, and the Control Command Centre. He directed teams to enhance production in line with annual dispatch targets while ensuring uninterrupted ore supply to industries. Emphasizing environmental compliance and sustainable mining, he urged strict measures against pilferage and greater use of digital tools for real-time monitoring, safety, and incident management.

The OMC Chief also reviewed employee welfare facilities, reiterating the Corporation’s commitment to workforce health, safety, and better amenities.

At Daitari Mines, Samal examined the Quarry, Ore Handling Plant (OHP), Ore Stockyard at Baliparbat, and the Daitari Railway Siding (DRS). He called for improved mechanisation and streamlined ore handling to raise productivity. He directed teams to ensure systematic grade segregation, strengthen material tracking through digital platforms, and improve logistics coordination for timely ore evacuation and rake loading.

Highlighting OMC’s long-term vision, Samal underlined that production growth must align with environmental responsibility, innovation, and regulatory compliance. He encouraged mining teams to adopt a results-driven approach, strengthen accountability, and contribute to OMC’s goal of responsible mining and sustainable development.
