One killed, one injured in MRPL fire incident at Coker Hydrotreater Unit

New Delhi/Mangaluru: One person was killed and another sustained burn injuries in the fire incident at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) on Wednesday, the company said in an updated statement.

The fire, which occurred at around 12:20 pm following the rupture of a high-pressure Cold Separator in the Coker Hydrotreater Unit, was brought under control and completely extinguished by 2:47 pm, MRPL said.

The company said that during subsequent combing and inspection operations at the affected site following the firefighting activity, one fatality was reported.

Another person who sustained burn injuries is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is being provided necessary medical care, according to MRPL.

Following the incident, the battery limits of the affected unit were immediately isolated and MRPL's emergency response and firefighting teams were deployed to control the situation.

The company said further verified information would be shared as and when it becomes available.
