New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated SJVN Limited's 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project from Pachpadra in Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in the country's renewable energy expansion and clean energy transition.

The project, developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable energy arm of SJVN, has been established in Bikaner, Rajasthan, with an investment of approximately Rs 5,492 crore. Spread across nearly 5,000 acres, the project is the country's largest single Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at a single location.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, among other dignitaries. SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, along with the company's functional directors and senior officials, joined the event virtually.

According to the company, the project is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units (MU) of electricity during its first year of operation and approximately 56,482.14 MU of clean energy over its projected operational life of 25 years. The power generated will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW) and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW) under long-term power supply arrangements.

SJVN said the project is expected to help reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its operational life, contributing to India's climate commitments and environmental sustainability goals.

The company also highlighted the project's strong focus on the Government of India's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. It has deployed around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and nearly 175 crore indigenous solar cells, providing a significant boost to domestic manufacturing and the indigenous renewable energy supply chain.

Apart from clean energy generation, the project has contributed to regional economic development by creating more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during its construction and commissioning phases. It has also supported the development of roads, transmission infrastructure and other associated facilities in the Bikaner region.

SJVN, a Navratna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, currently has an installed generation capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines with a combined length of 123 kilometres. The commissioning of the Bikaner Solar Power Project further strengthens the company's renewable energy portfolio and aligns with its long-term strategy to support India's clean energy and energy security objectives.
