New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has observed Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) 2023 with a list of activities conducted from October 30 onwards. The VAW concludes on November 5, 2023.

On this occasion, Praveen Kumar Srivastava, Central Vigilance Commissioner of India, lauded the pivotal role played by CIL in ensuring India's energy security and appreciated the earnest endeavours of the company to attain green goals. He praised CIL for its commitment towards promoting values such as probity, integrity, and awareness about vigilance.

CIL Chairman PM Prasad spoke of various steps the organisation took to encourage good professional practices, including IT interventions to increase transparency in its operations. He highlighted some legacy issues in the coal sector and the challenges that Coal India faces in mining operations across eight states of India.

Brajesh Kumar Tripathy, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), CIL, presented an overview of the various activities undertaken during VAW 2023 and the three-month-long campaign on Preventive vigilance. Updated versions of CIL's Purchase, Civil, and Contract Management Manuals were released. An e-mb and e-billing ecosystem portal and an updated Annual Property Return (APR) portal with a new feature were also launched.

The dignitaries also planted medicinal plants at Aushadhi Udyan and paid floral tribute at the Martyrs' Memorial at the CIL headquarters. Among those present were CVOs of all CIL subsidiaries and NLC India. The CVO also chaired a review meeting of all the CVOs present. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr B Veera Reddy, director (technical), CIL.

The theme of VAW 2023 is "Say no to corruption; commit to the nation". The week started with Prasad reading out messages by the Hon'ble President of India. The chairman had also administered the 'Integrity Pledge' to employees at the inauguration ceremony at Coal India's corporate office in Kolkata. Speaking on the occasion, the chairman stated that it is the duty of Coal Indians at all levels to ensure that things run smoothly and transparently and everyone works together to prevent corruption.

During the week, Prasad flagged off the 'Ethics Walkathon' for employees of CIL. On this occasion, CIL also organised a vendor meeting at its corporate office in Kolkata. During this event, vendors had the opportunity to voice their opinions and give their feedback while also raising queries. All of their concerns were duly addressed.

During this event, Dr Reddy highlighted the role of vendors and stakeholders in contributing to the organisation's growth. At the same time, Tripathy expressed his satisfaction with the valuable and honest feedback from them, applauding their unwavering support.

A publicity vehicle for VAW 2023 was also flagged off from the CIL headquarters in Kolkata by Prasad during the week, which moved around the city to spread the message behind this year's theme: "Say no to corruption; commit to the nation."

Even as the Vigilance Awareness Week was on, Coal India celebrated its 49th Foundation Day on November 1, 2023.
