
New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has signed major agreements for the deployment of 33.26 lakh smart prepaid meters in Gujarat under the RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme).
The agreements—PIA (Project Implementation Agency) and DDF (Design, Develop, Finance, Own, Operate, and Transfer) have been signed on Thursday, in Rajkot for the Phase-II smart metering project in the jurisdiction of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL), following the DBFOOT (Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate, and Transfer) model.
RECPDCL also inked the AMISP (Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider) Contract Agreement with Bharat Grid Private Limited, a joint venture between Actis and EDF India, which will serve as the implementing agency for the project.
The signing ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including: MD of PGVCL KP Joshi (IAS); CEO of RECPDCL TSC Bosh; Executive Director of RECPDCL Saurabh Rastogi; Chief Engineer of PGVCL RJ Vala; and the CEO of Bharat Grid Private Limited (BGPL) Christophe Feuillard along with senior officials from all participating entities.
The rollout of these smart prepaid meters is expected to deliver a range of benefits, including reduction in distribution losses, enhanced consumer engagement, minimised downtime, and overall operational efficiency in the power distribution system.
The initiative is a part of the Government of India’s broader strategy under RDSS to modernise and strengthen the distribution infrastructure across the country with a focus on reliability, sustainability, and consumer-centric service delivery.
