SECL procurement crosses Rs 346 crores through GeM in current FY

New Delhi: Coal Indian subsdairy South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has procured goods and services worth more than 346 crores through Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. GeM Portal is an online portal created for government procurement. Launched in 2016, the portal aims to make procurement by the government and its undertakings efficient, transparent, and inclusive.

According to an official statement of SECL, From April 2023 till now, the company has purchased goods worth more than 172 crores and services worth more than 174 crores through the GeM portal. Thus, it has registered a growth of around 13 percent as compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

Recently, the Ministry of Coal has been awarded in the "Best Engagement" category and Coal India in the "Rising Star" category for e-procurement through GeM by the Ministry of Commerce. In this achievement of the Ministry of Coal and Coal India, subsidiary companies have contributed significantly, in which SECL has also played an active role.

Products and services related to the coal mining have been purchased by SECL through the GeM portal, ranging from nut-bolts to large HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) machines used in mines such as 240 tonne dumper, 42 cubic meter shovel, dozer, grader etc. Along with this, the company is purchasing products like weigh bridge and various other products and services related to, electronics and telecommunication, IT, electrical and mechanical, and revenue items through the GeM portal.

For all products and services used by the company in its operations, company is ensuring 100 percent procurement through GeM. In case of non-availability of any product on the GeM Portal, the company is procuring them through custom bidding as per the provisions of the GeM Portal.

Along with this, the company is also issuing high value tenders related to mining services through GeM. In the month of March, a tender worth Rs 2063 crore was issued by the company on GeM portal for coal handling, transport and other mining activities in Gevra mine. This tender was the largest tender issued by any company for Mining Services (Composite Work).

SECL is promoting the use of GeM portal to simplify the process of inviting tenders for procurement of goods and services and to bring in greater transparency in compliance with the guidelines of the Government of India. In the last financial year, the company procured items worth a record Rs 923 crore through GeM and this year also the company is moving towards a bigger target.
