The scope of the project includes rigid overhead catenary systems (ROCS) and flexible overhead catenary systems (FOCS) across tunnels, bridges, open routes, yards and associated infrastructure over a project stretch of approximately 102.5 track kilometers, a company statement said.
The Rishikesh–Karnaprayag rail line forms part of the strategically important Char Dham connectivity corridor and is one of Indian Railways' key infrastructure projects in the Himalayan region.
The project is expected to improve all-weather connectivity, support regional economic development, enhance mobility for residents and visitors, and provide a more reliable transportation alternative in a terrain that is often impacted by weather-related disruptions.
Rajeev Joisar, Chief Executive Officer, Mobility Business, Siemens Ltd, said the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag corridor represents a significant step towards enhancing sustainable and reliable connectivity in one of India's most challenging terrains.
