New Delhi: Biswajit Basu has been appointed as Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited, the PSU said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Tuesday. According to the NHPC, Board of Directors in its meeting held on Wednesday, have appointed him as Director (Projects) on the Board with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after January 1, 2021. Currently, he is serving as Chief General Manager in the organisation. With his new assignment, Basu will replace Ratish Kumar, who has been with NHPC since October 1982.

PSU Watch was the first news organisation to report when Basu had been recommended for the post of Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited by the PESB panel on July 22 this year. He was selected from the list of 11 candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. 

Biswajit Basu's profile

Basu is an Engineering Graduate (BE) in Electrical Engineering from Tripura Institute of Technology (NIT, Agartala). He has 33 years of vast experience in the hydropower sector. Basu joined NHPC Limited in the year 1987 as a Trainee Engineer (Electrical) at Loktak Power Station and steadily rose to the current position. He has worked in various projects during the construction and O&M stages. He is also a Nominee Director on the Board of Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Limited (LTHPL).

As Director (Projects) of NHPC Limited, Basu will be responsible for project planning, execution and contracting. He will also assist the CMD to ensure proper administrative and technical control of the projects and their timely execution.

The company was incorporated in the year 1975 with an authorised capital of Rs 2,000 million and with an objective to plan, promote and organise an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects.
