New Delhi: Nitesh Ranjan has been promoted to the post of Executive Director in the Union Bank of India. He also assumed the charge of the post on March 10, Union Bank has said in a mandatory filing. Prior to this elevation, Ranjan was serving as Chief General Manager in the same Public Sector Bank. According to a notification from the Department of Financial Services, he has been appointed to the post for a period of three years with effect from the date of taking over charge of the post, i.e. March 10, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Ranjan is a post-graduate in Economics. He has also completed the Leadership Development Programme from IIM Bangalore, curated by the Bank Board Bureau in consultation. He started his career with the Food Corporation of India as Management Trainee and then moved to Andhra Bank. Ranjan has been associated with Union Bank since 2008. As Chief General Manager of the bank, he was responsible for steering the Bank's vision and goals including the strategic agenda of end-to-end digitisation. Prior to this, he was the head of Treasury operations. He also occupied several important positions in the Bank, namely- Management Group, Chief Economist and Regional Head.
Union Bank of India is one of the largest government-owned banks of India with 120+ million customers and a total business of $ 106 billion. After the amalgamation with Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank, which came into effect on April 1, 2020, the amalgamated entity becomes the fourth largest bank in terms of the branch network. UBI now has around 9500 branches after the amalgamation. Four of these are overseas in Hong Kong, Dubai, Antwerp, and Sydney. UBI also has representative offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Abu Dhabi.
