New Delhi: Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) held a selection panel meeting to select the candidate for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) on Monday. There were a total of four candidates appeared for the interview. PESB did not find any suitable candidate for the post of HUDCO CMD. Out of four one candidate was from HUDCO, one from Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), one from NBCC Limited and one from the state government of Nagaland.

In its response after the selection panel meeting was over, the PESB Board said they do not recommend any candidate for the post. The board advised the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to choose an appropriate course of further action for the selection of CMD HUDCO including SCSC/appointment through CSB.

HUDCO, which falls under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, had posted the job through the PESB portal for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) in January this year. The post was vacant since December 21, 2019. Currently, HUDCO's Director (Corporate Planning) M Nagaraj is holding the additional charge of the CMD post.

Role & responsibility of the HUDCO's CMD

The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) is the Chief Executive of the corporation and is accountable to the Board of Directors and the government. He/She is responsible for all the activities of the corporation including personnel, financial and commercial management, corporate planning and project implementation. He/She is responsible for the efficient functioning of the corporation and for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.

Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO)

HUDCO is a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. It is the premier techno-financing PSE, in the field of housing and infrastructure development in the country. HUDCO started financing the development of infrastructures in 1989. The priority was given for infrastructure facilities, including projects in the sectors of drainage, electricity, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management and roads in urban areas. Later, social infrastructure components like primary schools and playgrounds, hostels for working women, healthcare centres, police stations and jails, courts received the benefit of funding for a low cost.
