New Delhi: Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) held a selection panel meeting to select the candidate for the post of Director (Finance) of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) on Monday. There were a total of two candidates appeared for the interview but PESB did not find any suitable candidate for the post of Director (Finance) of SCI. Out of them, one candidate was from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), another from CG Power & Industrial Solutions Limited.

In its response after the selection panel meeting was over, the PESB Board said they do not recommend any candidate for the post. The board advised the Ministry of Shipping to choose an appropriate course of further action for the selection of Director (Finance) including SCSC/appointment through CSB.

Shipping Corporation, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, had posted the job through the PESB portal for the post of Director (Finance) of Shipping Corporation in March this year. The post is vacant since December 19, 2019. Currently, SCI's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Harjeet Kaur Joshi is holding the additional charge of Director (Finance) of the company.

Role & responsibility of the SCI's Director (Finance)

Director (Finance) is a member of the board of directors and reports to the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD). He/She is overall in charge of the finance and accounts functions of the organisation and is responsible for evolving and formulating finance policies as well as implementation thereof.

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) Limited

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a Navratna PSU with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company operates and manages vessels that service both national and international lines. The company was established on October 2, 1961, by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986 respectively. SCI started out with 19 vessels.
