New Delhi: In a move aimed at strengthening the interface between national security and advanced technology research, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has appointed former Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and former Punjab DGP, Dinkar Gupta, as Professor of Practice.
A decorated Indian Police Service officer from the 1987 batch, Gupta brings with him 37 years of experience in national security, counterterrorism, central and state intelligence, cyber security, and public policy. His appointment is expected to enhance IIT Ropar’s efforts to bridge academic research with practical insights from India’s internal security and strategic affairs landscape.
According to the institute, Gupta will play a pivotal role in mentoring students and researchers on technology–policy intersections, including AI-driven law enforcement, intelligence fusion, cyber security, innovation governance, infrastructure security and investigation of security-related threats. His engagement is expected to “empower young minds with the skill-based knowledge needed to partner India’s growth and development journey,” the institute said.
Gupta also has a long-standing association with academia. He has served as Visiting Adjunct Professor at George Washington University and American University in Washington, DC, and has been associated with the Chevening Gurukul Programme and London School of Economics. His international training includes engagements with Scotland Yard, London Metropolitan Police, and the New York Police Department. He also represented India at the INTERPOL General Assembly in Vienna.
IIT Ropar, established in 2008, has positioned itself as a leading institution in engineering and applied research, with strong emphasis on industry-facing innovation, technology development, and national research initiatives.
