Jaunpur/ New Delhi: "If UP continues to grow under the double-engine governments of CM Yogi and PM Modi, for another five years, the UP roads will not only surpass European standards but will compete with those of US", Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Gadkari on Monday laid the foundation stone of 232 km of the national highways at a cost of Rs 4,160 crore in Jaunpur and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. 

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath was present with him.

Speaking on the occasion Gadkari emphasized on infrastructure development for employment generation and economic prosperity. He said that we are committed to the development of Uttar Pradesh. He said these road projects will boost the development of the state, provide better connectivity in the region and the double-engine govt will double the pace of development of the state.

Giving details of expenditure on building roads in UP since  2014 Gadkari said projects worth Rs 1.40 lakh crore have already been completed in the state and projects worth Rs 1.80 lakh crore are under progress. "More than Rs 45,000 crore has been spent on land acquisition and other related works", the Minister added.

The Minister said these road projects will facilitate the movement of goods with better connectivity in the region. It will facilitate access to markets for agricultural produce, local and other products, he added.

In Jaunpur, Gadkari laid the foundation stone for three national highway projects which will cover 86 kms with a total cost of Rs 1,123 crore. In Mirzapur, Gadkari inaugurated four national highways projects worth Rs 3,037 crore with a total length of 146 kms.
