New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) gave away the SAIL Corporate Awards for Excellence 2020 on December 24 in a virtually conducted ceremony. SAIL's Chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary gave the awards to employees virtually in the presence of the functional directors and CEOs.

Felicitating the award-winning employees, Chaudhary said, "SAIL Corporate Awards for Excellence have been formulated with the objective of creating a company level platform for recognising and awarding the exemplary performance and extraordinary contribution of the SAIL employees in various areas of operation. This initiative is undertaken with an aim to create an environment of nurturing excellence, recognising the outstanding efforts and motivating the employees to strive for better." Recognising, awarding, applauding and celebrating the extraordinary achievements of executives in SAIL at apex level will strengthen the motivational climate and inspire employees to accept new challenges and go beyond the discharge of duties.

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) Director (I/c) Anirban Dasgupta gave the citation and a symbolic cheque of the cash prize of Rs 50,000 to the three winners along with their spouses. The awards include special category awards with a citation and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for Best CEO award and best ED award across SAIL. A citation and cash prize of Rs 50,000 was also given for awards in SAIL in 10 sub-categories on safety, cost, productivity, innovation, marketing, motivation, digitisation, R&D, communication and woman trailblazer.

General Manager (WRM) Anupma Kumari, General Manager (SMS-3) Jitendra Kumar AGM (INCOS) Amit Kumar won laurels for BSP by winning awards in the 'women trailblazer', 'productivity expert' and 'Innovation Architect' category.

Anupma Kumari has acted as a trigger and initiator for technology-enabled tactical engagement, where her team has progressively adopted new practices. A challenge was taken up by her team to commission and test all the digital AC & DC (Total – 13 nos.) drives and PLC scheme with remote input/output and new control desk with joystick during capital repair of 8 days at wire rod mill of BSP.

Jitendra Kumar, who was recognised as 'Productivity expert' took up the challenge to increase casting speed by superheating control at SMS-3. This will aid in rail bloom production at SMS-3, which is largely governed by the casting speed of CV-1 and life of RH vessel. His team was successful in reducing arcing time in FY 2019-20.
SP-III was planning a shutdown for Exhauster – 1 for a period of 60 days for up-gradation of waste gas ESP project. To utilise this opportunity of downtime, Amit Kumar from INCOS took the initiative to find options to upgrade the subject PLC system by in-house resources in exhauster – 1 and also to generate spares for use in the existing PLC system for the second exhauster.
