Srikar R Reddy (IFS) appointed as OSD in Department of Commerce

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of Department of Commerce for the appointment of Srikar R Reddy (IFS) as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. According to an order issued on June 19, Reddy has been appointed on the post at Joint Secretary level for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. With this assignment, Reddy has succeeded Dammu Ravi (IFS).

Education & background

K Srikar Reddy is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2001-batch. Hailing from Kondagadapa Mandal, Mothkur Nalgonda District, he completed his MBBS from Kakatiya University Medical College in 1996. As IFS, he is counted among the dynamic officials of his batch. He had served in the Indian embassy in Berlin, Germany. He also served in External Affairs Ministry at New Delhi, where he was in-charge of Pakistan desk which holds great significance. Currently, he was serving in the Department of Commerce.

Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is a department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The department is responsible for formulating, implementing and monitoring the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) which provides the basic framework of policy and strategy to be followed for promoting exports and trade. The trade policy is periodically reviewed to incorporate changes necessary to take care of emerging economic scenarios both in the domestic and international economy. Besides, the department is also entrusted with responsibilities relating to multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, special economic zones, state trading, export promotion and trade facilitation, and development and regulation of certain export-oriented industries and commodities.
