New Delhi: New Mangalore Port Trust's Chairperson VR Akkaraju has been given additional charge as Chairperson of Mormugao Port Trust. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways for the entrustment of the additional charge of the post of Chairperson of Mormugao Port Trust to VR Akkaraju. He has been given additional charge of the post for a period of six months with effect from June 3, 2022, or till the appointment of a new incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

VR Akkaraju is a ME (Mechanical) from BITS Pilani. Earlier, he was also Chairperson of Cochin Port Trust from August 2016 to June 2018. Prior to joining Cochin Port Trust as Deputy Chairman, Ramana was Chief Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, Kolkata Port Trust and was instrumental in facilitating integrated container operations through OOM (Own Operate and Maintain) model. He also worked as Chief Administrative Officer, Indian Ports Association and Deputy Director, Indian Maritime University. He has more than 26 years of experience in the ports sector, he was associated with the Sethusamudram Public Hearing Committee, a Member of the Chennai-based technical committee regarding infrastructural issues related to Indian Maritime University (IMU) and also associated with the preparation of the statute for IMU.
