New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Bishwadip Dey (IFS) as Joint Secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post for an overall tenure of three years up to June 20, 2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Dey is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 2001-batch. In April, he was appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Atomic Energy. Prior to his appointment in the Department of Atomic Energy, he was serving as High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He has also held as High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) came into being on August 3, 1954, under the direct charge of the Prime Minister through a Presidential Order. According to the Resolution constituting the AEC, the Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Atomic Energy is ex-officio Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. DAE has been engaged in the development of nuclear power technology, applications of radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, industry and basic research.
